Technical Details
Shown below is a diagram showing how this multi-tier access platform might apply to a typical distributed office corporate client.
At HQ, you will see that an on site media gateway/IP PBX is deployed to minimize the load placed on the WAN circuits and reduce latencies for desk to desk communications. Traffic destined for outside of the HQ network is prioritised and queued using Strict Priority Queuing on a Cisco 2600 series router before being relayed back to the voxige soft switch for further routing. This tier of access would also apply to larger branch offices.
At smaller branch offices the on site media gateway/IP PBX would be dispensed with and the voxige media gateways would take over this role. The router at the smaller branch offices will be a Cisco 1721, again using Strict Priority Queuing to ensure timely handling of time critical data.
SOHO (Small Office / Home Office) users would be catered for in a similar fashion to the smaller branch offices, utilising either a Cisco 1721 or a less expensive Zyxel router. The only difference at the SOHO tier would be the combination of the firewall and router task into a single device.
